Saturday on the Prince of Whales- Newburyport

What I love about Jeffreys Ledge is the variety of whales and dolphins that are abundant! Today we found 4 species-from the smallest (Atlantic white sided dolphins) to the largest (fin whales)!!

The minke whales were a bit elusive on both trips but the other 3 species were abundant and truely amazing!

We saw Atlantic white sided dolphins on both trips which was fun for us since we haven't seen many of these little toothed whales during the season.

We also encountered lots (tons) of fin whales between the mainland and the ledge. Some of these whales were traveling in groups of 4-5 individuals!!

From there we came into an area with several humpbacks including Valley, Newton and Freckles, all pictured below.

Some of the whales were bubble feeding, including Chromosome and Tripod, pictured below:

This was certainly a day filled with variety, and all of the sightings were stellar!
I would like to thank Willy and Pam for being two of our favorite whale watchers! Your enthusiasm and dedication is outstanding and I can't wait to see you again next season! Willy, enjoy the school year and thanks for adopting Comet! We will try again to find you a blue whale next summer :) Keep in touch!!

Thank you so much for the wonderful trips this week while I was there. When we saw the dolphins, they were swimming right under the bow and they were way bigger than I expected!!!

It was really cool to see the humpbacks bubble feeding almost right next to the boat!!! I never saw them that close!

When Clipper's calf came really close to me, I could almost see its whole body. It was really cool to see the fin whales all together too.

I got sprayed by a fin whale - it smelled good! It was funny to see the whale poop!

I already miss being on the boat with the great crew, new friends and the awesome whales - I want to be like you guys when I grow up!

Take care of the whales until I get back - you are the best!
