Wednesday, June 15th, Granite State

Today was a fantastic day. We left the dock with a school group from Vermont in hopes of finding whales. After all, the sun was finally out and we wanted to take full advantage of the nice weather. We searched for quite a while in the morning, but our patience paid off. A spout was seen on the horizon. We found an adult Humpback whale that in the beginning was traveling quite a bit, but then settled quickly on some food in the area. I'm very happy to report that our Humpback turned out to be Clamp!! We have not seen Clamp since 2008 and our crew was happy to know that she returned to Jeffrey's Ledge for yet another feeding season. Here she is photographed below.

We travelled 25 miles from Rye harbor and time was running short. The kids had a great time and it's always a pleasure to have them aboard.

We had a quick turn around for our afternoon trip, but headed back out to Jeffrey's Ledge to see what or who else we could find. The afternoon turned out to be ideal whale watching weather. With a light breeze and calm seas, it was a great day to be on the water, and our passengers agreed! We were lucky enough to find 2 Minke whale's between Rye harbor and the Isles of Shoals, and it was a great way to start our trip. As we made our way to Jeffrey's Ledge, we found 2 more Minke whales, along with 2 Humpback whales, and dolphins all within 2 miles of each other. Jeffrey's Ledge was full of life. Our Humpback's were identified as Hornbill and Sedge. Sedge is photographed below.

Thank you to everyone who joined us today! We hope you will join us again soon.
