What a crazy weather morning! We left the river feeling our way through thick fog. As we got offshore, the fog miraculously cleared and visibility was great. We spotted our first blow up to the north, and our friends on the Granite State investigated that blow while we checked out a second blow in the area. Our whale turned out to be a right whale- highly endangered and rare to see around here, yet have been seen in the area for nearly a week now.
Our afternoon trip brought different animals to the Ledge- fin whales!! My favorite! Notice the very tall and narrow shaped blow!
We ended up with 3 fin whales in the area and have yet to ID any of them but will work on that later in the week. Beautiful looks at the distinctive white lower jaw, swirly chevrons and unique dorsal fins!
Thanks for all of your support!
