Gondolier the Humpback whale was the main attraction on our whale watch today. We had this whale on our very first whale watching trip of this season as it has been exactly 3 weeks to the day that we last spent time watching this whale!
Since whales are constantly scouring the depths of the ocean for sources of food, it is very easy for whales to "swing by" for a quick bite to eat before checking out other areas in search of more food. Whales can remain in a portion of the ocean for a couple minutes, hours, and sometimes even days depending solely on whatever that animal decides to do. Maybe Gondolier swam to some of other 33-miles of ocean associated with Jeffreys Ledge over the past few weeks, maybe this whale even left the Ledge completely to check out some other feeding grounds in the Gulf of Maine? Whatever the reason for this whale's absence we were excited to have this animal back in the area and enjoyed the quality time of watching this whale's natural behaviors!
While Gondolier was quite the treat to see today we also got some nice looks at a few of the 5 Minke whales we saw throughout our travels. One such whale was cruising through the water with such force that each surfacing was creating quite a good amount of white-water allowing our passengers to do a great job pointing it out to all on board!
