July 19- Prince of Whales- Newburyport

A gray day on the ledge but marine life was afoot. Several groups of big bluefin tuna were splashing around as we made our way offshore. Close to the ledge, we found several minke whales. Although minkes are the second smallest baleen whale, they are the same size as a killer whale!
Diablo's flukes- a bit rare to see this year as she hasn't been lifting her tail much.

Leaving the minkes, we cruised up the ledge and relocated Diablo and her calf who were seen by the Granite State earlier in the day. These two were on the move and at first were difficult to keep up with. As the calf surfaced off our bow, Diablo breached out of the water right next to her calf, creating a giant splash! Amazing!! She is a big whale! Though I did not get an image of her spectacular leap, a quick fingered passenger on the bow did and I am hoping he will share one of his images with us so we can post it for all of you to see! Stay tuned!
