Tuesday on the Atlantic Queen

We are still traveling into deep water to find whales, once we are there it is well worth the trip! We had Diablo and her calf visit with us today, they were staying down for 4-6 minute dives. When we were spending time with this mom calf pair a Blue shark came right up to our pulpit and swam right down the port side of the boat! Sharks have been swimming in the ocean for about 400 million years-that means they were here about 175 million years before the dinosaurs! During our data collection on marine mammals we are also collecting data on marine debris, sadly this mylar balloon was floating in close proximity to where we have been seeing whales. Remember to always pop your balloons as they look like food to our marine mammals and sea turtles. A couple of our passengers purchased our new t-shirt design yesterday with a Fin whale on the back, be sure to ask your naturalist how to get one of your own!
