August 15 Starfish

Absolutely incredible day out in the Gulf of Maine yesterday!!! Started the day off with storms and a prediction of more storms, but the weather really couldn't have been nicer out at Jeffreys Ledge. Around 15 miles off shore we saw some splashing and spouts in the distance and decided to investigate. We were pleasantly surprised! We had a pair of humpback whales and a pod of atlantic white sided dolphins!

The back of an atlantic white sided dolphin! You can even see its tail th
rough the water.
Our pair of humpback whales. The one in the distance is Crystal, the front one is unknown.

We had some really amazing views of this pair of humpbacks! One time they came up next to our starboard side by surprise and our intern Katie screamed. Always so much fun to be surprised by these beautiful animals.
The fluke of our unknown whale.

The dorsal fin of our unknown whale. Doesn't it kind of look like a puzzle piece?

We also had another pod of atlantic white sided dolphins in the area, and a total of 4 minke whales! Really an amazing day. Thank you of joining us everyone, we hope to see you soon!
