Two very different trips today! This morning we found a minke whale with some sort of respiratory issue close to shore, and then lots of fog off shore. Thankfully, our friends on the Granite State found a nice pod of Atlantic white sided dolphins and hung onto them long enough for us to get some great looks as well! After searching more in the fog, we finally broke out of it on the way home and found a second minke whale.
This afternoon, we searched an area near Cape Ann where a couple of whales were seen earlier in the day. We didn't find these whales but a bit further offshore, we did spot the blows of Diablo and her calf!
As we passed this pair on to our friends on the Atlantic Queen and Granite State, we moved off a mile or so and found a very cooperative fin whale in the area. I haven't had a second to look through our catalog yet to identify this animal, but will do that soon so stay tuned for updates!
