July 22- Prince of Whales- Newburyport

What a day! Our morning and afternoon trips were rather different from each other even though we were searching the same area. The trips began with minke whales fairly close to shore. In the morning we saw the famous "Scar Minke", a whale with a very obvious entanglement scar just ahead of its fin, and whom we have been watching for nearly 15 years! Though I did not manage to get a photo of that whale, I did get a couple quick pics of another minke, seen in the same area!

Continuing eastwards, we cruised a long way to find a group of humpback whales- at least 4-5 in the group with several others around including Satula, one of our adoptable whales! Satula was in the distance with his distinctive lack of dorsal fin.
Other whales seen included an unidentified whale seen on July 4 and Lavalier's 2009 calf!

The afternoon trip brought a minke whale close to shore and lots of birds!

Much further off shore we found 5 fin whales!!! One of these whales lifted its flukes (extremely rare to see!) while another one was id'ed as our adoptable whale Ladder!
