August 3 on The Atlantic Queen

We had a full boat as we headed out to the ledge today. As you all know by now our whales have moved further off shore these days, but as I thought about it we do average about 20 plus miles anyway so going the extra distance for our passengers does pay off. We had a big Fin Whale today (all Fin Whales are big) as it came up for a breath we noticed a new wound on this endangered animal, a very sad site to see. We don't know the exact cause but any open wound leaves the animal susceptible to infection, and internal damage. Thankfully Melanie on the Granite State got a very good photo of the wound. As she mentions in her blog if you own a boat, or know someone who does pass on the information about always being aware on the water!
