July 12, Atlantic Queen

It was a blustery day as we made our way out of Rye Harbor. We headed north toward Maine. Once we made it 14 miles or so off shore we came across a fin whale. The fin whale was quite wiggly and we seemed to be playing a game with the whale. Luckily we did have some really great looks when it happened to resurface right next to us.

On the way back home a young passenger was asking me if we ever see dolphins. I was telling her that we see them on about 20% of our trips, and that I hadn't seen a pod yet this season. Almost immediately after telling her this we came across a small pod of Atlantic white sided dolphins!

It was a lovely afternoon, and it was nice that the winds subsided while we were making our way back to shore.
