August 16 Atlantic Queen

Rainbow over the Isles of Shoals
We had plenty of life around, with a total of 9 minkes, 4 fin whales and 5 harbor seals!

We started seeing minkes early on in the trip, and had several of them in one area just east of the Isles of Shoals.  As we headed further offshore, we ended up seeing 3 different fin whales, one of which looks like it is one of our favorite whales, "Dingle," who was first seen in 2003!

As it got later, we headed back towards shore, only to find another minke whale and a fin whale, which we got amazing looks at as it cruised slowly by us.

An ominous sky to the south

Great look at a fin whale's chevron!

Fin whale and rainbow

At one point, it started raining, but then things just got more interesting - we had a huge, brilliant rainbow while watching the fin whale, and most of the way home. What a great way to end a great trip!
